Calypso Bulbosa Orchid
This North American native orchid was first documented by the Lewis and Clarke expedition, on their travel through the western states. Pink petals frame the yellow center of the flower, which has tiny hairs that rise up to draw in and coat pollinators. The piece is set in a rock from the Arizona area and the sand, in which the piece is planted, is from Ruby Lake, Montana, near the area where the actual orchid is found. This piece measures 8 inches tall and the orchid is classified by the American Orchid Society as a miniature. |
